EHPS 2012 Prague

President’s message

Dear colleagues,

Vladimír KebzaIt is my honour and pleasure to invite you to the 26th Conference of the European Health Psychology Society (EHPS) to be held for the first time in history of these Conferences in Prague, Czech Republic from August 21st to August 25th, 2012.

The Conference theme “Resilience and health” considers the old psychological and medical “body – mind” topic from the new perspectives, dimensions and possibilities of psychological science. The scientific programme will offer large range of presentations, discussions and meetings from distinguished keynote lectures to thematic symposia, thematic sessions, interactive posters etc. You are kindly invited to submit your abstracts for all the mentioned forms of presentation and to share your work with a great international psychological community.

The Czech (former Czechoslovak) Section of Health Psychology was founded in 1988, originally as the Section of Healthy Life and since 1990 as the Czech Health Psychology Section and as one of the sections of the Czech-Moravian Psychological Association. Czech health psychologists look forward to this important meeting of European as well as international colleagues.

The Conference hosting institutions are the Czech Health Psychology Section of the Czech-Moravian Psychological Association and the Charles University in Prague, Department of Psychology. The opening ceremony will take place in the main historical building of the Charles University in Prague. Diplomat Hotel Prague is to host the regular sessions of the conference.

Prague (in Czech “Praha”) is the capital and the largest city of the Czech Republic. Prague has been the political, cultural and economic centre of the Czech state for more than 1100 years. The city is home to more than 1.2 million people and it is also the site of the European headquarters of many international institutions and companies. Prague is also one of Europe's (and the world's) most popular tourist destinations.

The Charles University in Prague, founded in 1348, is one of the world's oldest universities. With approximately 7,500 employees, and more than 51,000 students in 17 faculties, the Charles University is not only the oldest but also one of the most important educational institutions within the Czech Republic.

I am sure the Prague 2012 EHPS Conference will present not only a wide variety of exciting scientific findings but will also be a friendly and open platform of plurality and tolerance that also allows critical reflection of our work. Indeed, I expect that conference delegates will also have the opportunity to visit our University and our beautiful historical city.

I am looking forward to welcoming you at 26th EHPS Conference in Prague!

Vladimír Kebza, President of the Conference
